Ze Artiste
Art is a deeply personal process for me. As complicated as an individual is in the many facets of their personality, so is my artwork a reflection of my individuality. Each piece is a part of who I am, no matter how inane it may seem.
There are a lot of literary and mythological references in my work. Just as art has been an extension of humanity, so has telling stories. The creative process itself reveals something deep and complex within the human spirit that simple necessities do not satisfy. Food, shelter, and water are all basic building blocks for humanity, but without passion, it feels as if there is no direction or purpose for our lives. I have been fascinated by the creative side of humanity for a long time, and have come to believe that humanity’s creativity is essential to our survival, both individually and as a species. The stories we tell, the art we create, the music we play, all has the inherent purpose of giving our existence meaning.
It’s tempting to try to categorize people, to fit them into the mold of our own understanding of how the world works. But that simply is too myopic. Humanity is vast, and widespread, and incredibly diverse. But one of the few things we all have in common is our passion to create.
